Born 1978 in Hiroshima, lives and works in Kyoto
Kenichi Sawazaki worked in Newcastle from 2002-2003, graduating from the International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences in 2007.
In his recent major work, a series of humorous and poetic video installations, Sawazaki presents us with his process of attempting to relive the life experiences of people in the past with whom he has a familial or poetic connection. In developing scenes where personal experience and social incidence become entwined, he explores the effects of the peripheral images in an attempt to re-illuminate that which we can never ourselves experience firsthand.
Major exhibitions include:Solo show “Progressive Belief in Doub, LE Bind” (GALLERY TERRA TOKYO, Tokyo, 2012). Selected group shows include: “Domestic Archaeology” (GALLERY TERRA TOKYO, Tokyo, 2013), “Art Court Frontier 2013” (ARTCOURT Gallery, Osaka, 2013), “Kawaii” (CAMP Contemporary Art Meeting Point, Athens, 2013), “The same thing or similar things, and an action.” (AD&A gallery, Osaka, 2010) and “JEANS FACTORY ART AWARD 2008” (Kochi City Culture-Plaza CUL-PORT, Kochi, 2008 * won the Grand Prix M).
