Biografia
I have been a practicing artist for over 20 years and graduated in 1997 from Otago Art School with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in painting. The key themes in my work are colour, landscape and my relationship to my environment.
My preferred medium is oil paint. This is because of the intensity of colour and light that I can achieve through numerous layers and glazes. I begin with thin washes of colour, followed by a process of building up of more opaque layers to reflect what is beneath.
Through this process, there is a continual removal and addition of medium until I come to a place of contentment and resolution. I describe myself as an emotive colourist, producing work that creates escapism not just for myself, but also for the viewer.
My current practice relates directly to my search for the ultimate utopia. The building of colour on the surface of the canvas in a way that connects to the beauty and balance within nature searching for the symmetry that exists between colour and landscape.
