Artist Statement
A dream is a consolidation of reactivated memories; I paint dreams.
My life mission is to seek out veritas--what is true to me. As the passage of time is segmented into past, present and future, the everlasting truth that I can continuously access is from the past. Thus, simply like the people of the grotto of Lascaux, I paint as if I am recording my memories. Naturally, I paint as my memory renders dreams--subjectively, in the way only I can visualize concepts, feelings, and so on. This is my approach, and this is the way my creativity and subjectivity collaborate spontaneously.
My fascination with and use of gold pigment: A dream is derived from a person’s history—their past, whereas gold, characterized by its eternal ability to maintain its form, is a symbol of future. The reflection of gold varies along with the light and shifting of perspective. This other-dimensional addition to a two dimensional surface aids in eulogizing and proving my memory to be true.
My paintings are the proof of my existence and life rendered by my memories.
Through my paintings, my memories, the proof of my life, I am eager to find tangencies with others in society. Validation is scarcely made by oneself alone within one’s solitary parameters. Thus as I am an artist, I chose the format of painting to facilitate the validation of proof of life and to glorify an unexpected resonance with and by others.
