Biografia

Debra Raymond‘s artistic practice is informed by her research of the city lives on the digital terrain - from the politics of bustling metropolises to the everyday lives that exist within them. Inspired by the everydayness, which often devalued as banal and never more so than in a culture besotted with technology and constant changes, she features the transitory nature of city space as key visual elements in her work. Working from her personal observation of the urban environments, her works explore its temporary nature and celebrated the complexity of everyday psychology. Reflecting upon the present time and its society, she enquires on nothing less than human progress and what has been left behind in pursuit of it.

Debra was born in Cleveland (Ohio, USA), grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia and currently based in Singapore. She has shown work in Playeum Children’s Centre for Creativity (Gillman Barracks), Singapore, Taksu Gallery Singapore, Cemara 6 Galeri-Museum, Jakarta, Indonesia; Culture Station Korea ; Societe Generale at Alliance Francaise de Singapour ; and many other contexts locally and internationally.
