Biography
Anne Ackermann is a documentary photographer based in Kampala, Uganda. She freelances for international magazines (GEO, Stern, Terra Mater, Die Zeit, INYT, etc.) and aid agencies ( USAID, Plan International, UNICEF, etc.) while following own projects. Her focus lies on contemporary and women's issues in Eastern Africa.
Anne was nominated for Joop Swart Masterclass in 2010. In 2011 she was selected for Noorderlicht Masterclass and received a grant from VG Bildkunst for “The Gulu Project” about the aftermath of war in Uganda. She was awarded 1st prize at the ‘profamilia journalism award’ in 2012, in 2015 she was shortlisted for Hansel Mieth Preis in Germany. In 2016 she was selected as a laureate of the 5th edition of the Photoreporter Festival of Saint-Brieuc, France.
Her work has been widely exhibited, e.g. at the New York Photo Festival, PhotoGrafia Festival Rome, Angkor Photo Festival, Belfast Photo Factory, Triennial of Photography Hamburg.
