Biography
Ruben Hamelink (1992, Rotterdam, The Netherlands) is a self taught photographer and film maker focused on socially engaged documentary work.
In 2014 Ruben created the portrait series ‘Vietnamese Veterans’ about the men and women defending Vietnam is 4 different wars over the last century, and how they look back on that history. The project was eventually published, in combination with historic and anthropological texts, by Lecturis Publishers.
Working as a camera operator / Director of Photogrpahy Ruben has been moving more towards the moving image. Working on a wide range of projects; the TV documentary series ‘Grenzeloze Rotterdammers’ (2016, Tim van den Hoff, Dore van Duivenbode , 8x 25min) about the relationship between the rebuilding of Rotterdam and its rich history of immigration, ‘Stateless Democracy (2017, Co-directing with New World Summit, 60min) about the radical democratic movement in Rojava, West Kurdistan.
