Biography

Giulia Giannola is an Italian artist born in 1985, in Naples. After finishing her Bachelor degree in Venice at the IUAV University, she moves to Berlin where she graduated as Meisterschülerin in Installation and Multimedia at the Universität der Künste (UdK), with Prof. Christiane Möbus and was guest student in artist Candice Breitz class at HBK Braunschweig.
Her interest rests in particular on the relation between human time and/vs. production. In her videos and performances, time factors such as duration and rhythm, are called into question, twisted and transformed. Simple actions are often re-enacted as work in the assembly line, modifying the actions real rhythms, suggesting alternate realities that she also likes to call choreographies.
She received the Elsa-Neumann-Stipendium des Landes Berlin in 2014. Her works have been schown at Saarandisches Künstlerhaus, Saarbrucken, Georg Kolbe Museum, Berlin, Regional Museum of Samara, Russia and Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, among others.
Giulia Giannola lives and works between Berlin and Naples.
