Biography

My work has always coveted a study of woman’s bodies, their shape and colouration pertaining a certain amount of realism. Having studied the form I then ventured more deeply into permanent scarring of the skin and discolouration and the reasons for this. Jenny Saville was one of many artists that gave me a great source if inspiration at this time.
Recently I have been researching the hormonal changes women face throughout their lifetime and the symptoms that prevail, especially focusing on ‘the climacteric’, ’the change of life’ otherwise referred to the menopause. The severity of the symptoms and the experiences most women encounter throughout this period vary from one to another as well as the duration.
I hope to show a collective response to my research, within my paintings. Having used more coverage of the raw canvas to create an atmosphere upon and around the body. In creating the work the form becomes more abstract as its immersed in the aura of paint and diverse marks made upon the canvas. Thus trying to encapsulate the mood and figure in becoming one entity.
