Biography
SILVIO BALESTRA
Silvio Balestra was born on December 3rd 1969 in Trieste in Italy, , where he presently lives and works.
He uses photography and computer graphic to give expression to his art.
In the last years, he followed and deepen the conceptual photographic research of abstraction giving another meaning to the light by placing it in a black and white world where every recognizable shape practically disappears.
About computer graphic, his last works are the “Microsoft® Excel® drawing”. He created digital graphic works by using not a common graphic application software, but the Excel ® by Microsoft®, the spreadsheet data processing application. His aim is to obtain through digital graphics a pictorial (even through digital) painting by using a basic drawing tool and a mouse hence the term mouse-painting.
His last research route is called Concepts and the serie Monocromo Charta . The Concepts are works carried out by using printed photographic ink paper manually remanaged.
The serie Monocromo Charta includes photography works skretched by the artist to represent other worlds connected with our mind, our dreams ,our emotions.
His works have been displayed in many joint and solo exhibitions, Art fairs in Italy and abroad.
In December 2009 he had a solo exhibition in Montreal, Canada.
In 2010 and 2011 he won several Awards both with photography and graphics.
For two years running, he has been given the Merit Award by a well-known American magazine of photography (B&W Magazine Ca) which published all his works.
He attended with one of his work the public collection of contemporaneous art at the Art Museum “G. Sciortino” in Monreale.
In February 2011 he has been awarded with the Art Gallery Exhibitors’ Prize at “Artistinmostra – Parma Fair 2011” and is one of the eight finalists to win the Critic Award.
In July 2011 he has been selected with the photography to attend the 2011 Art Award promoted by Mondadori Art Magazine.
His works have been shown at the De Nittis Foundation in Barletta.
On the occasion of the 54^ Biennal International Exhibition of Modern Art in Venice edited by prof Vittorio Sgarbi he has been invited to the Italian Pavilion at TORINO Esposizioni (Turin Exhibition fair).
In May 2012 and 2013 Silvio Balestra attended the Milan Image Art Fair (MIA fair 2012) with “Proposta Mia” and in 2013 he has been selected for CODICE MIA 2013 award.
In March 2013 at the Chiostro del Bramante in Rome his personal exhibition which has been looked after by Giovanni Faccenda was on with 80 works of him which routed significantly his career.
In September 2013 The Orler Gallery in Venice well-known for its TV special issues telecasted live a personal exhibition of Silvio Balestra.
In October 2013 he has been awarded during the 8th editon of the international photographic prize “BW the Spider Awards” in the section dedicated to Abstract photography.
In January 2014 he has been invited to attend the “Biennale di Fotografia” in Milan . Vittorio Sgarbi will take care of this important event during the EXPO International event in Milan in July 2015
He has been selected also to participate to the “Biennale d’arte Asolo” 2014 which will take place in Asolo and cared by Giovanni Faccenda where he is the winner for photography section..
In June 2014 all his works are published on the art volume “Internationale Kunst – Heute – 2014” IKH publishing – Muenchen Germany.
In June and November 2014 he is invited to exhibit at the Triennial Exhibition of visual arts in Rome and his works is selected for the cover of the catalogue edited by Giorgio Mondadori .
In October 2014 he is a winner in the professional abstract category at the 9th Black&White Spideraward .
In July 2015 he has been invited to participate to the exhibition “ Thank you ITALY “ in the National Pavillon of Guatemala and National Pavillon of Grenada in the 56° Biennal International Exhibition of Modern Art in Venice.
He exhibited in September at the Spanish Gaudi’ Gallery in Madrid and they will show his works at the International Affordable Art Fair in Amburg in Germany in November. He won the Spotlight Award at the “Black&White Magazine Contest ” in October 2015 and the magazine edits an interview and his portfolio . in December 2015 he received the Honorable Mention at the 10thBlack&White Spieder Awards in the abstract photography section. In april 2016 he received the Nominee at the 9th International Color Awards. His Artworks are sold by the Italian web Artdealer and Gallery ARTEINVESTIMENTI by G.Boni which exhibits works on the satellite channel SKY868.
He was selected for the International ArtBook XI° International Contemporary Artist Art Book curated by Julia Adison - ICA publishing New York USA /Atene Greek .
His Artworks were published on the CAM 52 (Modern Art Catalogue ) – G. MONDADORI in the Photography section.
In January 2017 he starts working together the Artdealer and Gallery Gallerique in Chicago Usa and the Gallery KontemporaryArt in Calcary Canada.
