Biography
'I work primarily with figurative and object based imagery; aiming to express the aesthetics of desire, sex and death, descriptive as well as recalling the memory of the body.'
These works are provocative, playful, harsh and tongue in cheek. This friction is counterbalanced by use of humour and the slapstick. However, this response is often tied with melancholy, denoting a climax or residue of an experience or act. In other paintings, other ideas, a waiting period is declared, like an inhalation or a frozen moment forever sealed beneath the fetish finish. Embedded beneath these layers are scars and scratches, flaws from the process of making. A continuous battle takes place in the action of the painting process, involving an unleashing and harnessing of each mark. These marks are exposed, a contradiction is communicated. The ground, colour, composition, forms a series of painterly graphic signs aim to evoke a narrative whether epic or fleeting and this implied narrative helps me guide idea with process. How the idea, the sign and the process of painting interlock and set up dependencies in each painting is an aim of the work in the long term; to control this without killing the intensity of the painting...
Knight is a Kent based artist. Knight studied her BA Fine Art Painting at Chelsea College of Art and design 2005 and was recently selected as the runner up for the Marmite Prize for Painting 2010 as well as being selected for ‘Artist of the Day’ Flowers Central on Cork Street 2010
