Biography
My work as an artist is informed by my previous career as a BBC TV news correspondent/presenter, my broadcast name is Triona Holden. I reported on wars, famines and disasters around the world. I made numerous documentaries, some of which are archived at the British Film Institute. During filming in the appalling orphanages in Romania I became dangerously ill. A virus triggered an autoimmune reaction that meant I could no longer continue in my job. Whilst recovering in hospital I discovered a whole new world of expression through art, it transpired I had been in the wrong job all those years! Now as an artist I revisit the horrific events I witnessed and express a personal rather than journalistic reaction to them. I speak with a different voice, deliver a different message. Through my work I challenge the institution-based world I represented for more than 20 years. I am striving for honesty, both in myself and my art.
