Biography

Silvano Alessandro Picchi, born in Florence, Italy, still very young started his career at Macy's in Florence. He traveled all over the world to select fine pieces of furniture and decor. He took part in several events in Italy as a co-producer and organizer including a consulting role for C.A.T.O (a program created and supported by the European Community Government). In the final years of his career with Macy's he started designing home accessories on his own. His creations were sold by Macy's in the US and met with considerable success. He received several awards and mentions by Italian trade agencies and the specialized press for his role in promoting Italian design. In 1994 he was invited by "Linea Arte Rizzoli Editore" to hold a series of conferences and courses on antiques, on the subjects of Jewelry from the 17th century to 1830 and Dolls in history. Among his other activities, he was an advisor for the President of the Cultural Commission of the European Union (that he represented in several missions in Italy and France), and he taught "Creativity" at the "Polimoda" fashion school in Florence.
