Biography
I was born in Naples. I was born in a place split between fire and water. The fire of the Vesuvius - at the same time good guardian and nasty warder of all Neapolitans - and the water of the Mediterranean which works itself in the sinuous Gulf of Naples.
These two elements – fire and water – played a central, dominant, essential role in my childhood. I clearly remember the emotion caused by the contrast between the water – warm, clear, reassuring – and the volcano – dark, strong, terrifying. Fire, water and painting. Painting also played an essential role in my childhood, because I grew up surrounded by colours, brushes, canvases, frames. And then it comes Naples itself and its colours, smells, its ‘'humanity''. Being born and having grown up in a place like Naples has certainly influenced my work.
The city offers so much to viewers, in terms of contrast, contradiction: the historic center is heaven and hell all at once. Beauty and horror, peace and nightmare, chaos e cosmos: the contemporary presence of the opposites, this what strikes more about my native city.
