Biography
Astrid Steiner lives and works in New York. She is part of the VJ duo LUMA.LAUNISCH and creates visual poems on screens from techno clubs to opera houses. Her work captures urban romanticism as well as impressions of nature, people, and inanimate objects, mixed with graphical elements. Steiner has gained the attention of the international art scene, including invitations to the Vienna Biennale of 2006, the exhibition Sound:Frame at Vienna's Künstlerhaus in 2008 and 2009, New York's Austrian Cultural Forum & the CNN SpectacolorHD screen in Times Square.
Meanwhile, luma.launisch has recently performed in concert with Alkinoos Ioannidis, Brothers Ivanov, Groove Armada, Shy FX, Jeans Team, DJ Mehdi, Dominik Eulberg, Sound Liberation, & Kristjan Järvi’s Absolute Ensemble.
