Biography

My paintings are based on my photographs of architecture. I photograph the urban environment to explore its form and structure. The buildings I paint are often in transition, their construction revealed, mirroring the process of constructing a painting.
I visit cities, such as London, Paris, Budapest and Madrid to take photographs of the architecture.

The photographs are abstracted and modified, through the process of painting. I use the grid as a tool allowing certain areas to be seen. The wood that I paint on is either bought or found, as the wood grain can be seen in the painting.

The history of brush marks, in my paintings, relate to the evidence of the past evident in architecture. There are decisive and accidental marks through painting. The motif, in my paintings, may inform other paintings.

The painted image borders between abstraction and representation.
I make experiments ‘alongside larger works’, on pieces of wood, exploring geometry, colour, light sources and the transparency of paint.
