Biography
When I arrived to Berlin six years ago, I was immediately intrigued by the various physical, political and social landscapes within the city. I immediately began looking for ways to connect to the city, the people and their personal histories. I instinctively turn to incorporate the people around me in my art as a way of interpreting my interactions with them.
Most significantly, through the process of my work, I became aware of a “Lost Generation” of gay men who had died of AIDS in the last 20 years and the traces of their existence in Berlin. Much of my current work is an attempt to hear the “silent voices” of the people who could have become my generation roll models, people who were not long ago part of this community.
The installation "Untitled" (Column) is a kind of a memorial tower or a column made out of bathroom cabinets that were bought in second-hand stores and places that deals with furniture that were cleared out of deceased peoples apartments. It is an abstract object, but also one that contemplates about desire and death.
