Biography
My work is dealing with archetypal imagery of the female, using the female body and the idea of beauty to explore female identity. The work is driven by an idea of contradiction stemming from the condition of being female; myself looking at the female and objectifying as a beautiful fetish object, but myself as a female also denying to be objectified. I cannot deny feeling the dilemma and contradiction of a female visual pleasure but at the same time the imagery of the female and related objects are pleasurable and can be a fetish for me. My work takes inspiration from classic fairy tales which contain female’s problematic issues. To explore this, I am continually using collected objects to create installations with a narrative quality. Using objects such as tree branches, body parts and other collected objects related to the female, my work forms installations that begin to deal with a notion of an ideal beauty- displaying the female as a passive and objectified form.
