Biography

Elio Castellana (Brindisi, 1971)
Visual artist. Castellana explores the ambiguities between real and fictional by using several media, from photograph to video, installation and performance.
His experiences as actor and director of a theatrical group (Accademia degli Artefatti, Rome) and as social psychologist, led him to utilize simulation, representation and substitution as conceptual means to test the ever-changing patterns of social relations and the paradoxes of sense which characterize contemporary visual imaginary.
His installations, performances and theatrical pieces have been hosted in important venues, such as Palazzo delle Esposizioni (Rome), “Franco Parenti” Theatre (Milan), Swiss Cultural Institute – Romanian Cultural institute (Rome), “India” Theatre (Rome), Ungharian Academy (Rome – in collaboration with Italian visual artist Luigi Ontani).
