Is it because we are living in an enviroment of constant change and instability, or is it because she comes from that part of the world where instability is the norm, and where drastic change is urgently needed?
No matter what the reason is, Roula Sorour has always been fascinated by change, and the balance and struggle between two opposing states. Of major concern to her is the shift of this delicate line between peace and chaos, good or bad ,right or wrong...
Paintings, drawings, photos , textures from found materials are all manually or virtually (using photoshop) collaged ,modified ,torn, crumbled or even destroyed to create virtual landscapes that are reminiscent of our erratic volatile and unstable world. These landscapes explore the constant struggle and need for change in order to detoxify body, mind, spirit and planet, from anything negative ranging from stereotypes, violence , racism, toxic illusions to germs, viruses and everything in between.
Over the past 2 years she started working on audio visual collages, mixing improvisations ,audio, paintings, photos and drawings .
