Biography
Maricel Paraje was born in Cordoba, Argentina, on August 15th 1977. Shortly after she moved to Mendoza where she studied architecture, but as she says “it's not part of my DNA as an artist to create works on request” and after three years decided to abandon her university studies.
She is a versatile artist, experimenting with lines and colours from an early age. She taught herself how to paint in Argentina. Her passion for art was first unleashed whilst visiting art museums in Buenos Aires. It was during her trip to Italy, where she attended some courses in painting - first in Bologna and then in Cervia - that her own romantic and existential path led her to painting and to start using many different forms of thematic expression: from oil painting to wood sculpture, drawing and writing and creating objects of common use such as chairs, lamps and bags.
After moving to Olbia in Sardinia, in sync with the rise of the second millennium, the first cycle of her paintings titled "sexo" were followed by the exhibition "nada es mentira" (nothing is a lie) that whimsically expresses her exuberance for life, offering enthusiasm and a positive message:
“It’s possible for everybody to choose their own destiny and create their universe providing they have optimism and a sincere heart”
Throughout this time she worked as an interior designer and created works of art for many shops and restaurants in Olbia, also contributing a poem for the book 'Chinese horoscope 2009 " from the Argentine writer Ludovic Squirrou.
