Biography

Judith Paula Shaylor was born in 1966 in Wolverhampton. At the age of 16 she was given a place to study
Art and Design in Bournville School of Art, where she specialised in Textiles and Ceramics. She went on
to study for a B.A Hons in the Drawing and Painting Department at Edinburgh College of Art, where her
main disciplines were Tapestry and Printmaking. She spent her time at E.C.A experimenting and trying
to find her individual style. She is continually experimenting and working towards what she feels is a
body of work which is both original and exciting. As an Artist she is always striving to create a harmony
of pattern and colour in her painting. Her work explores beauty and pattern found both in our natural
and man-made world. Through a lengthy and often slow process the artist explores the idea of how
natural and man-made surfaces overlap and inspire works which often reproduces decorative chaos.
She loves beautiful textures, patterns and colours which she is constantly photographing. It might be
paint peeling from an abandoned skeleton of a boat found on an Italian shore or a stain found on a castle
wall in Portugal, which will eventually find it self as inspiration for a series of works.
she is currently living in Tarifa Spain.
