Biography
The engraver’s Atelier
The art of engraving emphasizes certain changes occurring in the post-modern era; since its invention, it has in fact developed in a manner parallel to and is naturally linked to evolving artistic trends and techniques. This relationship grew more intense during the second half of the last century.
Such developments moreover make it all the more necessary to determine a series of activities related to the ‘repertory’ of graphic art and with a view to consolidating indispensable professional standards, which, in turn, stem from the knowledge of historical phases and an awareness of modalities of operation typical of the craft.
Over the years, on Ronchin’s part this has been accomplished through such activities as the Brolo d’Artista [the ‘Artist’s Garden’] event, various exhibitions and reviews with original prints and her participation in national and international competitions.
These aims have been pursued in her workshop activities at both the Atelier and at external sites, where from to time the artist has been invited to work. Annette produces traditional copperplate engravings but often engages in a broad range of experiments with the intention of accommodating conceptual themes with new technical solutions.
Within matter itself there are the vital elements of the ‘magical, alchemical’ essence of the various techniques she usually adopts; these include acquaforte and acquatint etching, dry-point engraving (punta secca), soft-ground engraving (cera molle) and the more experimental mixed techniques such as gaufrage and xylography and techniques integrated with copper-plate printing.
