Biography
Jamie Poole
I was born in Northampton in 1973 where I now live and work. I am a teacher of art at Northampton School for Girls where I have been for the last 7 years. Before taking this post I lived and worked in East Sussex and then took time to travel in Australia. During this trip I found different opportunities to explore my interests in making art including - theatre work, mural painting, ceramics and sculpture.
The dominant theme in my work since leaving university has been landscape. I am particulary inspired by colour and how this can be applied to a landscape to evoke a sense of mystery, memory or emotion. To create these effects I use techniques which can suggest a dream-like quality. The materials I use include collage, acrylic paint, pencils, text and maps.
I studied at Nene College in Northampton before going to study Surface Pattern Design at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent where I was awarded a 1st Class degree with honors.
I have exhibited my work all over the country including London and more recently I have taken part in local exhibitions and had lots of success selling my work.
I am currently taking part in Northamptonshire Open Studios showing my work at Upper Benefield Village at The Wheatsheaf Inn as well as at Kelmarsh Hall central exhibition.
