Biography

Born in Milan in 1959.

IRENE CAMPOMINOSI

“ PLUS ULTRA”. In this Latin motto lies the foundation of Irene’s painting, who plays with the ancient theme of still life, transforming it in “ living nature”, an excuse to describe the subject of reflection.
The object chosen and fixed on the canvas reveals to us what we can see beyond, the “Plus ultra” that we often don’t notice as our sight is limited at the inanimate object without noticing its existing reflection.
Here then, pots telling about Indian landscapes, silver revealing places and settings, shakers evoking Roman, Venetian and Levantine atmospheres.
A spoon refers to an emotion of holiday, a glass becomes the medium to describe a sunset or the elegance of a renaissance architecture.
The research of the shape and light of the reflection, through the chromatic study, gives life to the object. Shine and transparency animate the object to tell us what is surrounding it.

A fundamental and creative photographic research combines with excellent painting skills, which often exploits the ancient technique of glazes, leads to realistic figurative results which maintain, nevertheless, strong pictorial atmosphere and poetry.
In Irene’s painting traces of the Flemish school coexist with elements of the contemporary realism.
She is among the few artists able to approach the hard theme of figurative reflections.
