Biography

Max Coppeta is the artist behind the first scanographer in the history of contemporary art. The Gift of God (2001), first exhibited in the historical Piazza del Plebiscito of Naples and featured in the book Hospitals and Health Care in Italy (Liguori Publications, 1998), is among his early scanner photographic works. Born in Sarno (1980), Max lives and works in Bellona, Italy. He holds a Master of Arts in Stage Design (First-class Honour), from the Academy of Fine Arts, Naples.

During his formative years at The Turin School of Design, Max meets Leonardo Sangiorgi (Studio Azzurro), Pep Gatell (La Fura dels Baus), and Carlo Infante (New Media). These personal encounters have a profound and lasting influence on the young artist’s approach to research and his way of thinking and living the arts for good. In 2006, Max specializes in Visual Arts and Entertainment at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples. Alongside his visual arts research, Max takes up post-graduate studies in Design and Visual Marketing. His collaboration with the Bellini Theatre in Naples has a significant impact on his professional development.

Max has received a number of international and national scholarships and awards to further his research in the field of multimedia languages. In 2012, he lays out a fresh line of research following a visionary and experimental path that uses toxic chemicals in simulations of the mysteries of nature. The Synthetic Rains collection (2013/14) has been on show in Milan, Naples, Turin, Venice, Los Angeles, and Singapore. Cross-disciplinary research collaboration with science-oriented foundations and universities, including the Polytechnic University of Milan, the University of Turin, and the University of Salerno, has resulted in numerous exhibitions and peer-reviewed publications and co-authored papers.
Milan-based D'Ars Foundation and The Filiberto Menna of Salerno Foundation direct and guide Max in his present and future sci-art projects. The artist’s exhibited works have been reviewed favourably by Italy’s major daily newspapers (Il Corriere della Sera, Il Sole 24 Ore, La Repubblica, Il Mattino, and others).
