Biography
Film director Roberta Marques has been living and working worldwide, mostly in Brazil, The Netherlands and in New York City. Her work, which takes different forms - from stills to motion pictures, performances and installations, has been seen at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, The World Wide Video Festival, The Nederlands Film Festival, The Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, PS 122 (NYC), EMPAC – NY, Cinedans, IMZ – Dance Screen, ACT Festival Bilbao, Melkweg Amsterdam, Nes Theaters, CCBB Rio and Brasília, and Centro Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura (Brazil), a.o..
Roberta is currently working in the post-production of “Rânia” (working title), her first feature film produced and shot in Fortaleza, Brazil. In 2009 she accomplished the second part of her trilogy “Looking Forward”. At the present moment she is on preparation to film part 3 of the same trilogy to be shot in New York City. Roberta’s feature documentary, Deixa Ir, was in competition at the Rio International Film Festival in 2005. In 2007 her short film Acorda (Wake Up) won several prizes at the I For Rainbow Festival, including best film and best photography. In 2008 Roberta’s short film Looking Forward (first film of a trilogy) won best film at the ACT Film Festival in Bilbao. Her debut short Amá-la won the Jury Prize at the Mix Brasil 1997 and was screened at the Dutch Perspective program at the 27th International Film Festival Rotterdam (1998).
