Biography
Born in London in 1977, Rivkah Hetherington graduated from Winchester School of Art in 1999. In 2000 she moved to Bologna where she lives and works. Her work has been generously supported by two grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (2000 e 2002).
Her most recent solo show opened at Cento Castle in September 2008. Entitled “Joan of Arc is Jeanne Romée: the woman behind the myth”, it consisted of a 16 metre painted frieze and an installation inspired by Dreyer’s 1927 film “The Passion of Joan of Arc”.
She is currently working on a series of paintings exploring sexuality and disability, developed from Ventriglia’s ballet “The Sea in Chains” (Venice Biennial 2007).
Another work-in-progress is the project “The Body will not be Silenced” dealing with Female Genital Mutilation and based on her voluntary work at Moyale, Kenya.
In 2006, she was selected for the exhibition of Young Italian Artists, Quotidiana 06 (Civic Museum, Padua).
In 2007, her work was chosen for the Sovereign European Art Prize, London (curator Sir Peter Blake).
She has exhibited in the following countries: Italy, Great Britain, the U.S.A., the Czech Republic, France and Germany.
