Biography
Generally when I begin a new painting, I have no pre-determined direction and start painting spontaneously allowing my ideas to evolve naturally. This often results in the work changing drastically from start to finish, allowing either visual or textural forms to remain evident beneath the surface.
Using words, images and colour, along with shape and texture, I build up the picture's surface, layer upon layer, until I feel there is a pleasing overall balance, and a visually interesting and unified composition. The words used not only convey a defined meaning (which might pin-point a time, place, certain idea, person, event or thought, ) but are also included as visual elements in themselves.
In my painting I use references from music, pop culture, books, current events and anything else that might be influencing me at the time. I have a strong intrest in outsider art and continue to be inspired by Art History with its many aspects.
Overall, my general goal when creating art, is to give something to the viewer that they will have to study in depth, to fully absorb the information presented.
