Biography

Irene Pittatore graduated with honours at Dams (University of Torino, Italy). She is co-founder of Impasse, a cultural association which operates for both defending the intellectual work (R-sets, Tools for cultural workers) and extending/ contaminating the contexts of production and fruition of contemporary art.
She is the art contributor to Playboy Italia and Men’s Wall magazine.
She is working on A BOOK TO/BE. A DIY user manual for art practices in urban regenerations (editions Archive Books), an artist’s book curated by Nicoletta Daldanise dedicated to contemporary art practices in relation to the public realm and urban transformations.The research phase of the project took place in Berlin thanks to the Movin’Up prize by Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali and GAI Giovani Artisti Italiani.
Together with the association Radici erranti she developed cultural cooperation activities and public art projects in the working class neighborhood Pogolotti, founded in La Habana in 1911 by the homonymous Italian entrepreneur. The project Parada Pogolotti has been part of the side events of the Bienal de La Habana 2015.
In 2014, she won Autofocus, VANNI occhiali’s prize for the performance, curated by Olga Gambari. In 2012 with A. Vaneycken she took part in the AIR program Viadellafucina realizing a project on art and gentrification focused on the area of Porta Palazzo in Torino. In 2010 with Francesca Macrì she has been invited by the Piedmont Regional Commission of Visual Arts to join an artists’ residency at Villa Arson (Nice) and she has been selected by Resò international network for a residency at Capacete (Rio de Janeiro/ San Paolo) to develop a research on the role and the influence of female gender on the creative process as well as on the admission to artistic career (In genere). She has realized installations within Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto, Artissima 18, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, The Others Art Fair, Festival di Architettura in Città, XX Giornata FAI di Primavera, Torino European Youth Capital, Proposte XXIII, Fusion Art Gallery (TO), Studiodieci City Gallery (VC), Palazzo Ducale (GE), Castel dell’Ovo (NA), ‘nei limiti’ – La Biennale di Venezia 54/Padiglione Italia/Piemonte, ZooArt, ManifestaZoone (CN), BJCEM, Biennale dell’Assurdo, Premio Celeste, FMPQ, Food Design 5. She has joined in the workshops proposed by Krystian Lupa within Biennale di Venezia 2000, by Massimo Bartolini and a.titolo within Proposte XXIII, by Documentary in Europe, and those ones leaded by Bruna Biamino, Doriana Crema and Dario Neira, Caretto and Spagna at the Living Art Park.
