Biography
Paul Chirco was born in Cinisi, along the coast of Palermo, when again, especially in small towns, we breathed the air of the war, the clerical-fascist imprint tired to be removed and the mafia subculture prevailed and conspiratorial. He received his artistic maturity in '72, then continuing his search to alternate between Art and Craft. Experience and knowledge of the hand through the knowledge of various techniques and procedures that now flow together in his works.
Traces, shadowy forms, information objects, in a process consisting of a visual layering of signs and gestures through time, where the intertwining of art and life choices tell us about that work which is to say there.
The choice is dictated by the Informal its purity and continuity: purity derived from its aniconicità, where the gesture is transformed into a sign, track, sediment, lump that coagulates sensitivity, vibration, desires, dreams, but never the stories.
And continuity with an art that was intended as a total existence when, coming out of the experience of World War II, it was decided, with this freedom of sign and gesture, to see how to rise again. Choice still valid as the continued destruction of not only people but also and above all of ideas and values.
