Biography
Annalynne Kaplan’s eye-catching paintings reflect her passion for bold and quirky aesthetics. With striking color and a rough palette, her influences are apparent; she draws inspiration from Narrative painting, German Expressionism and the Japanese cartoon styles of ‘Manga’ and ‘Anime’, “I am choosing to work in a style resembling ‘Outsider Art’ to create a youthful and contemporary body of work.”
Not one to replicate the look and feel of other artists, Annalynne has successfully developed her own innovative style of painting. Although the individuals in her artwork are removed from photographic likeness, there is a burning, tactile realism to Annalynne’s work that comes through in the emotion and personality of every individual that she creates. The style of her paintings reflects the instinctive and free way in which she puts paintbrush to canvas, “ I have a general idea of what I want the end product to look like, but the rest of the process is completely organic”.
Annalynne’s recent debut exhibition in Cape Town saw most of her works sold. The success of this show has prompted her to begin work on her much-anticipated next exhibition.
