Biography
In my work, I strive to express the relationship between humanity, nature, earth and the universe. More personally, my work is a reflection of myself, a moment in time. It also tells me a great deal about myself and the world around me. Viewers often find universality in my paintings, which depict shapes and symbols found in nature. The use of round and circular forms represents the cycle of life and their common occurrence in the universe.
The majority of my work is oil on unprimed canvas. By mixing the paint with poppy or stand oil and mineral spirits, I create a multitude of layers, representing metaphorical links to the past, present and future.
My work on paper is painted without layers using Japanese pigment and traditional Japanese writing ink, called Sumi, as well as pencils. By dropping and blowing the ink very carefully, I create the expressive beauty of life full of accidents and chances.
The varied colors, fine lines and organic shapes in my art reflect my sensibilities and emotions. These feelings are often uncertain and intimidated by the challenges the future may bring, but ultimately inspired and hopeful.
