Biography
Silvia Canton was born in Conegliano (TV) in 1974.
She graduated from the Liceo Artistico and then from Rome’s Fine Arts Academy. She lives and works in Castelfranco Veneto.
Her passion for design, which has accompanied her since she was a child, resulted in her working for many years alongside the well-known costume designer, Odette Nicoletti. Pencil sketches of costumes take on life with endless sprinklings of colour in a painstaking quest for details; hairstyles, jewellery, shoes, the fall of each single fold, right up to fabric decoration. In the capital, and then in Venice, experience acquired working alongside theatre and film professionals helped refine her art and training, enabling her to contribute with great attention to detail to a whole range of different projects.
From the sheet of paper to the wall, the step is only a short one and, at the same time, the world of decoration gave her the chance to enhance with her skill the interiors and facades of prestigious buildings. Particularly interesting are the stuccos, where centimetre after centimetre, the artist creates delicate motifs on the white surface of the plain but precious background.
At this point, the approach to painting became an inevitable landing point and, like a swollen river which reaches the sea after a long journey, for Silvia painting became an expanse of creative freedom and personal research, which after a long preparation frees itself of the restrictions imposed by a pattern or an environment, to begin a very intimate and personal dialogue made up of pure colour, canvas and sentiment.
