Biography
Celeste Network is an online community in which artists and arts professionals from around the world can share their common interests in contemporary art, encourage new projects, and promote their work in a positive and active online community of like-minded individuals. At the moment there are 75,000 signed-up members, each with a personal page, and 7,000 visitors a day.
Celeste Prize is open to the many and varied artistic practices which define today’s approaches. Thanks to chief-juror Fatoş Üstek, curator of Art Night London, and the fab team of jurors, the Prize shows work which nurtures the common ground between artistic languages as well as giving artists an opportunity to investigate key issues which matter to them.
OPEN SELECTION PROCESSES
International critics and curators work under public scrutiny, selecting the very best artwork for the prize's final exhibition. Selectors accept to reveal their choices in public, onsite.
SEPARATION OF ROLES
Celeste Prize's unique character derives from a clear separation of roles:
- Selections made in public by a jury of art critics and curators
- Finalist artists vote the prize money
- Organisation, implementation of terms & conditions by the Organiser.
Celeste Network creates the conditions for open, accountable selection processes. For too long, many art prizes have been organised on narrow or unaccountable lines to the detriment of artists. While selection by individuals is always a subjective activity, it's Celeste's aim to favour, the clearest possible results, by persuading selectors that responsible choices should be made in public.
