The Colours’ Freedom
If we assume that a work of art is an external expression of the artist’s personal idea of the world or of his/her emotion, we can easily applied this concept to Betto’s works.
Through his paintings he gives vent to the feelings provoked by the observation of what surrounds him. Reality is a continuous source of inspiration: the beloved venetian landscapes and every aspect of nature are investigated and re-elaborated through the use of the colour which proves to be fundamental. Colours play such an important role in Betto’s works as to become the prima donna, the essential conveyor of the author’s emotions. Thanks to a balanced study of nuances and tones the painter represents a world in progress, a world which is alive and vibrant and has somehow lost any temporal connection. To the observer the trees, the winding course of a river, cornfields and green meadows can either recall a present time or a past memory: in both cases the emotion they arouse is never motionless. A particular attention to human body betrays the artist’s classical background: armonic and sensual female bodies are depicted mainly against a natural panorama suggesting a dreamy atmosphere.
