Biography
Who travels far can tell a lot of stories’ (Matthias Claudius, (German poet 1740-1815)
This certainly applies to Kees Habraken from Breda, NL. Instead of telling stories he rather uses images to reflect on his encounters with people in countries far away.
The result is a series of beautiful, powerful and colourful portraits with distinctive facial expressions provocatively captured. His work unconsciously moves people.
Encountering people plays a crucial role in Kees’ work.
The emotions during these meetings are the thread in his oil paintings. He translates these encounters into a painting and captures these emotions direct onto the canvas.
Quote of a visitor
‘Looking at these paintings you enter their world. It makes you feel you are travelling through and have contact with their lives.
