Biography
Michele Welke is an artist mainly focused on the language of painting which he analyzes by expressing his research also with sculpture, video, installation and environment details. Sometimes through the use of a street character, as in the case of the Golden Elevator, at the Museo Dell’ Altro e dell’ Altrove _MAAM of Rome. In other cases he shows a sensibility towards the themes of “restitching”, according to the direction to Renzo Piano and the Group G124 of the urban regeneration, specifically the Barca location located in the northern suburb of Turin. Evidently, Welke’s artistic veins carries with it a political influence under universal perspectives. This political side his tightened to the humus of painting. The chosen color is gold, because of its strong symbolic connotation in art, which is connected to richness, prestigious materials, an element that enhances preciousness. Gold, as well as painting, is metamorphic and it gives meaning and shape. (Gerhard Richter)
