Biography

The sculptor Vasile Toflea was born on June 12, 1965 in the village Vidra, Jud.Vrancea, Romania.

The first contact with the art world took place in 1993 when he made his first sculpture at Focsani as an apprentice of a experienced local sculptor.

He attended the "Art School" in Focsani which he graduated in 1998, specializing in figurative expressionist sculpture.

In his sculptures, Vasile Toflea is inspired by the neoclassicism and the works of Michelangelo, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Antonio Canova.

When he creates a sculpture he is inspired by the human anatomy and also by the shape and texture of the material he works with, especially stone or marble. He can perform works in stone, marble, wood or bronze on any topic, including religious themes.

His works have appeared in public and private collections both in Italy and in other countries and were published in catalogs of prestigious modern and contemporary art.
He also won second place at the "Premio Roma 2009" in Italy, sculpture section, with the work "The Kiss".
