Biography
Laura Thompson(painter) and her husband Frank Rekrut (a sculptor)
have enjoyed their work in the decorative and fine arts for 25 years. Laura’s realist paintings in oil include portraits, landscapes, and still life.
As a graduate of The Florence Academy of Art in Italy, her art reflects
the solid foundation of her classical realist atelier training and education
in the 19th Century French Academic method while also allowing for many forms of expression and styles in a variety of subjects.
While they still maintain a studio in the beautiful Niagara region of Canada, she and her husband made the decision to open a second
studio in the historic centre of Florence, Italy in 2010 where they now live permanently. The creative atmosphere of Florence, the contrast of
modern and ancient design, the historic architecture and Renaissance
art all provide constant inspiration for new works.
