Biography
I was born in a town and country that no longer exist. They are now called Kabwe and Zambia. My father is Scottish and mother Polish.
My earliest artistic influences were a mixture of African and European art. This resulted in a distorted style, which reflected my then love of Francis Bacon, Picasso and African carvings.
I moved to England and studied art at Goldsmiths in 1970- 1971 before entering advertising where I eventually became a creative director of various agencies including Ogilvy & Mather.
In 2006-2007 I left advertising and did an Fda at St Martins/Byam Shaw. Since then, I’ve been emerging very slowly and belatedly from my pupate state.
I’m not interested in the relationship of form or colour, or in being pretentious, clever or trite. I simply wish to express real emotions openly and honestly in three areas: alienation, Africa, passion and memories in smells.
