Biography

Gionata Xerra born in Piacenza, Italy in 1961.
After attending the University of Architecture , he began his career as professional photographer. In 1985 he started an important collaboration with Gran Bazaar magazine and, in 1987, with Domus. He works also with Abitare, Case di Abitare, Casa Vogue, Interni, Io Donna, Ottagono, Elle Decor, New York Time Magazine, Mix-tè, mainly for interior architecture and design.
Consequently he performs his activity in the world of production, collaborating with companies such as : Arc Linea, Armani Casa, Arper, Axor, Baleri Italia, B&B, Benetton, Biticino, Cassina, Casamilano, De Padova, Desalto, Driade, Elmar, Enzo degli Angiuoni, Fendi, Fiat New Holland, Flos, Foscarini, Hansgrohe, Ikea, , Kitchen Aid, Minotti, Norbert Wangen, Oluce, Poliform, Pozzi Ginori, Redaelli, Tisettanta, Tre p, Venini, Zucchi.
In the fashion field he worked for Armani, Pietro Pianforini, Valextra, Fratelli Rossetti, Rodo, Canali, Jil Sander, Before, Benetton, Marzotto, Ermenegildo Zegna.
He also collaborates with different architecture studios and design such as Antonio Citterio & Partners, Marco Romanelli, Jean-Marie Massaud, Studio Mendini, Emanuela Frattini, Matteo Thun, Rodolfo Dordoni, Tony Cordero, Clino Castelli, Toan Nguyen, Studio Savorelli, Buratti + Battistoni, PS+A.
In the same time he's been involved in research projects aimed at portraying the human body. At this regard we mention the series “Feet” (India, 1991) (published in 1994 in collaboration with Pier Paolo Pitacco) and “Teste” (Uganda, 1992).
In 2004 he begins a new way of artistic research studying the issue of “self-contamination” image and “the error dominated” where the synthetic vision of reality, typical of the photo, looses its value and the possibility of interpretation comes up. The novel begins where real stories usually end.
