Biography
My name is Giuseppe Giganti. I was born in Valencia ( Venezuela ) from italian parents, but I have been living in Italy since I was five. Despite the fact I have never attended an art institute because I used to live in a town in Sicily where there were no such art schools or academies ( hence my degree in foreign Languages and Culture as a second choice ), my passion for painting and Arts has always been very strong so much that I started experimenting in oil painting by myself.
When I moved to Rome in 1990, I attended and completed my very first course in iconographic painting under the direction of Master Paolo Orlando in 2006. As my passion and enthusiasm for this unique technique were steadily growing, I decided to carry on my studies under the direction of Master Alfonso Cacese from 2007 onwards.
Thanks to him I had the opportunity to acquire besides the painting techniques, also a wealth of notion in the theology of Icons because Master Caccese, is also a Religious studies teacher and an expert in Patrology.
I am particularly fond of the multiple techniques used to “inscribe” the icon: from gold planting on a table to the engraving of the figure; to the use of egg tempera to the use of pigments and other types of material which, I can never get tired of stressing enough, derive from the mineral, plant and animal world.
