Biography
Eclectic artist and performer was born in Verona in 1977 and now lives and works in Reggio Emilia.
During her career she has exhibited in many personal and collective exhibitions and has performed both in Italy and abroad, making herself known through her expressive originality as an exponent of contemporary Italian art.
Her research was born out of a long experimentation, started with the art studios in Verona, having immediately manifested her natural tendency towards art, continues with approaches to the world of fashion, and ultimately leads to her final choice, that of devoting herself entirely to artistic career.
It goes from painting to sculpture, from installations to videos and performances, but its major research focuses on matter. Cement, resin, paper, metal, and paints, through which it defines the characteristics and expressiveness that they now identify and have made it known to critics and the public.
Through a figurative plasticity wrapped in monochromatic shingles, the artist creates a fusion of sculpture and painting, full of contrasts between shape, light and shadow, where different materials merge and leave the media but at the same time become an integral part. A symbiosis between bodies and surfaces that refers to a surreal representation where human figures and places appear suspended between nature and dream.
The works, strongly autobiographical, arise from feelings that show a desire for harmony between the essence of man and the nature surrounding him. Thus the objective is to convey a "divinization" of these natural forces and create a sense of belonging and immemorial, which was strong and rooted in the past but now forgotten in our time.
Erika Bonato questions about life, death, individual and collective destiny, the relationship between external and internal reality; in her work there is a desire to belong, to feel the depth, to look within the being.
The non-place of ideas and concepts becomes a place lived and, from semetrack, underground roots emerge as a story, as a personal story, in which one can easily recognize.
