Biography
With a background and experience in classical ballet, my objective is to combine performance art with photography. The performance aspect is the central part of my work, in which the camera’s perspective, like a theater audience, is the final component necessary to create scenes that would otherwise not exist. I am inspired by the idea of recreating everyday situations or objects after stripping them of one or more components that define them. Whether it is the simple concept of a conversation between two depicted by just one person, or the creation of masks without the use of any materials, my idea is to stage scenes that not only become a reality for the camera, but scenes that only become a reality once the camera captures them.
While I believe that retouching and digital enhancement has a place in photography, I do not apply it to my images in order to maintain a sense of unaltered artistry that happens in the moment of a live performance.
