Biography
The refined world of Roberta Ubaldi’s work is born from the unique combination of the most traditional oil painting techniques and the reuse of industrial materials such as sheets of iron , suffused alternation of soft tones with contained luminosity that contrast with the modern process of transformation and ageing of the recycled materials. Like a work in progress her work seems to transform itself into a divining ritual, beginning with a rational act by the artist which involves leaving the supports out in the elements (air and water) .Then an unpredictable succession of events and the chance resulting oxidation allows for an important freedom of evolution. Awaiting the complete fusion of the color, the brushstrokes follow one another, delicate, inspired and guided by the surface of the support, revealing the most recondite passion and thoughts of Roberta Ubaldi, an artist of very refined execution who manages to create an interplay of transparencies and subtleties of shining elegance. However, these softened visions conceal a deeper message, at time a dark message, which reveals itself through the erosion of the materials as a metaphor for the passing of time .They are an ode to the inexhaustible frailty of things and of life itself which in her latest series, “Ghost” is reinforced by the introduction of mysterious presences and visionary subjects, symbols of ambiguity with the certainty of reality.
