Biography

Tyler Alexander Mallison (b 1975 US) is a London-based British-American contemporary artist. Educated in diverse subjects such as chemistry, European languages, interdisciplinary design and fine art, his artistic practice draws on a broad range of visual languages and cultural codes, including consumer culture, primitivism, non-secular and eastern philosophy, living sciences and conceptual modernism.

His focus is on creating multifaceted conceptual projects and installations, utilising both traditional and new media—fundamentally prompting questions about the status quo—its pace, conventions—in the context of individual identity, aspiration and collective desire. Across his work there is a tension between the cognitive/systematic and primitive/expressive—merging desires for order, structure, minimalism and selflessness with those for basic feeling, meaning and individuality.

He holds a Master of Arts (MA) from Central Saint Martins: University of the Arts London and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL (Chicago).
