Biography
Giancarlo Lamonaca was born in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1973. Studied arts and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, Italy.
Lives and works in his studio in Vahrn, Italy. His work is mainly related to photographic post-production, and, personally, curates projects of photography, graphic design and painting. Since 2000, he concentrates his attention particularly on photography. In 2006, presented his work at the personal exhibition "point of (re)view" at the fortress "Chiusa" in Mühlbach, Italy, where the exhibition location was considered as object of art. In 2007, his artwork was selected to be part of the second triennial art exhibition "II Trienala Ladina", organized by the Ladin Museum in San Martin, Italy, with a progressive study of the place of exhibition as subject of interpretation in his photography. In 2008, participated into the international art contest "Conflict or: the present in the past", organized by Durst Phototechnik A.G. The selected work was exhibited in 2009, at the Tammerburg, in Lienz, Austria. This statement would be of inspiration for the creation of a series of photographic paintings entitled "It happens between horizons", that has been exhibited in May 2009, at the independent exhibition place "L'Angolo di Umberto Russo", in Bolzano, Italy. In 2009, the artwork "Horizon no. 2" from "It happens between horizons" obtained the first prize ex aequo in the contest "Heroism, yesterday, today, tomorrow", organized by the Ladin Culture Department of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Italy.
