Biography
Born in Barcelona in 1970, Luis Vidal who lives and works between
Barcelona, Spain and San Juan, Puerto Rico, E.E.U.U, is one of
Spain's most internationally renowned artists. He has exhibited in
Germany, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Brazil, Italy,
Argentina, Mexico, Peru and the U.S. His work lies somewhere
between social engagement and the most innovative artistic
practices, revolving around social issues polemics.
However, his work has not strayed from that irritating subversive
quality, thanks to which it makes its way through, avoiding the
risk of getting caught in the elite collectors and art critics web.
Vidal is provided with a more global perspective on the harsh
reality that surrounds us. Life -in all its internal violence,
corruption and endless struggle between good and evil- is
channeled through his installations, not as a consecrated
formalism, nor provocation, but as an emotional experience under
construction, which is, thus, capable of being seen by the spectator
with the necessary critical distance.
Luis Vidal has had numerous exhibitions in international galleries,
institutions, and museums such as the Bass Museum (Miami),
Herning Kunstmuseum (Copenhagen), Fundació La Caixa
(Barcelona), Museum of Contemporary Art (Rosario, Argentina)
and the Centro Cultural Español (Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Lima,
Miami). His work has been acquired by many international
collections both private and public, including Martin Z. Margulies
(Miami, USA), La Caixa (Spain), Museum Pfalzgalerie
Kaiserslautern (Germany), Jack Collection Helgesen (Norway,
Oslo), Collection Hugobono (Puerto Rico, USA), Kunsthalle Emden
(Germany).
