Biography

James Iles (b.1983) is a Welsh artist and illustrator, noted for his work as an abstract industrial landscape painter and pre-production artist for film and television.
As storyboard artist, he has illustrated stunts, over 30 episodes of the British science fiction series Doctor Who, in addition to other productions including Sherlock for Hartswood Films, and advertising campaigns for CBS

James's paintings are the result of a three stage process of observation, expression, and reduction. They are a reaction to the busy city lifestyle and an attempt to capture the energy, movement and growth of populated and industrial areas.

From energetic pen and ink studies, to expressive and aggressive mixed media paintings, James' arrives at highly reduced and stylized works, using flat colours and clean, bold outlines to celebrate the subject matter.
His paintings are included in private and public collections in the UK, Finland, USA, France and Spain.
