Biography
Elisa Leonini’s artwork focuses on the study of shadow and anamorphosis by "sculpting" appearances through perspective, with the result of confusing the ambiguous perception of reality. The first part of her work consists of producing luminous sculptures made of plaster or clay with the objective of creating shades that are different from the generating shapes. Subsequently, the pursuit of phenomenal wonder which characterizes the real or illusory world’s manifestations as well as the human interest for the space, directs Elisa Leonini’s work towards the realization of site-specific pieces of art which mainly consists of videos and installations made of adhesive paper silhouettes that appear spread across space with randomness. The expressed viewpoint is that of an organized chaos, at least for a moment, which then became again confusion and fragmentation. The dialogue with the environment highlights all the possible aspects of reality by pulling the viewer in a dynamic flipping between reality and illusion. In the latest years she is investigating the idea of an immaterial sculpture, trying to transform sculptures and drawings in music.
